Your Wedding Day is up there with being one of the most important days of your life. Obviously you’re going to want to feel and look your best!

I want to share with you some Bridal Makeup tips that I have learnt throughout the years of doing Bridal Makeup.

SKINCARE ROUTINE

Bridal Makeup Tips skincare routine

I would say the most important tip to get that flawless glowing fresh bridal look is a good skin care routine. If you don’t have a skincare routine i would suggest that in the months leading up to your Wedding you should concentrate on this.

Now obviously everyone has different skin types so there isn’t one product that’s going to suit everyone. For simply removing your makeup I would suggest Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. Used on a cotton pad this stuff is brilliant.

I use it to take off my makeup at the end of the day and every morning to wipe away any dirt from the night. I also use this on ALL of my Brides as there is no perfume in this product. I find it suits all skin types, even sensitive skin. I use it firstly to remove any makeup they may have missed and it also leaves the skin looking fresh and hydrated.

You should cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin twice a day (day & night). Find a good skincare products that suit your skin. I personally love Aveeno for a moisturiser as my skin can get quite dry. The formula is very moisturising and keeps my skin hydrated while i sleep.

Primers

Bridal Makeup Tips Primer

You want to create a good base for your makeup to sit on. Having a good skincare routine and moisturising well is sometimes enough but I also like to use a primer sometimes. My favourite primers are:

Embryolise: Is so versatile it can be used as a moisturiser/primer or even a face mask!. I love this product but would not recommend it if you have very oily skin.

MAC strobe cream: This is very illuminating and leaves your skin looking very fresh and glowy.

Benefit Porefessional: If you have oily skin I would recommend this primer is quite dry and also smooths out the skin hiding pores.

You should always use a good eye primer to prime your eye-lids before eyeshadow. I find this step so key to avoid creasing and to even out the colour on your eye-lids. This will keep the eye shadow on all day (even throughout the tears!). The Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion is very good. As is MAC pro-longwear paint pot. You can also just use a good concealer as i have found this works just as well!

Foundations

Bridal Makeup Tips Foundation

Once you have created a good base you can’t really go wrong. Find a good long wearing foundation like NARS sheer glow or MAC Face & Body. These foundations are quite light but also very build-able and they dont look ‘cakey’. I find these foundations good for mature skin or for people with naturally flawless skin to start with.

One of my other go to foundations is MAC Studio Fix. I find this foundation matches well to most skin types. Depending how you apply it you can have a light coverage or build up to full coverage. It is very long lasting so excellent for Bridal.

Concealer/Setting powder

Concealer Setting Powder

Finding a good concealer is also key. Something like the Maybelline fit me concealer or NARS radiant creamy concealer are both very creamy and wont look “cakey”. If you’re looking for something more full coverage then MAC Pro Longwear concealer is very good and long-wearing.

“Application is key”

You don’t want to go in putting loads of product on, layer it slowly. Keep adding more if you need more but you want to again avoid the ‘cakey’ look. I would then suggest a good setting powder. Like Laura Mercier translucent powder or RCMA to set your concealer and your t-zone.

Powders/Blush

Makeup Powders Blush

I do like to set the face with a powder especially with Bridal. Its a long day and you dont want your makeup sliding off your face! After foundation/concealer is applied i lightly dust over the face with a powder just to set everything in place. I then go in with blush/bronzer/highlight, here are a few of my favourites!

MAC Soft & Gentle: This will always be my go to highlighter. Its not too much but shows up in pictures and gives an amazing glow.

Mary Luminizer: This highlighter is lovely if you want to go for a more glam look on your Wedding Day!

The powders I use to set the face are:

MAC Studio Fix Powders:They come in so many different colours and give such a nice finish.

I don’t really ever do heavy liquid contour on clients as its just not my style! I like to contour with a powder and the ones I like are:

MAC Give Me Sun and Benefit Hoola. You can also use these as a bronzer.

For blushers I have absolutely loads I like to use but a couple that stand out are MAC warm soul and Benefit Galifornia

Eyeshadows

eyeshadow

Now there are millions of eye shadow palettes out there and individual eyeshadows but here are some that I always go back to and find just work the best for my clients:

First Madison Dare to blend palette I love the colours in this palette and its my go to for Bridal.

Second is Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette these colours again are very Bridal and they last forever as the pay off is so good you don’t need to use a lot.

Thirdly is Too Faced Sweet Peaches palette  this has been my go to palette for a long time, the colours are lovely, again all good Bridal colours!

Lastly I have alot of single MAC eyeshadows but the one I use almost on every bridesmaid/bride is MAC She Sparkles Dazzleshadow, this colour is so lovely to give that pink shimmery look on the eyelid.

Lips

Lipstick

To make your lipstick last as long as possible you want to exfoliate your lips with a simple sugar scrub and apply a lip balm (i would suggest doing this step before you start your makeup so the balm has time to sink in) before applying any lipstick, this will create a nice smooth base.

I then find that when im lining my lips if you apply a little bit of the lip liner onto the lips then when applying the lipstick on top of this it helps set the lipstick, if you then get a thin piece of blotting paper put this over your lips and apply some translucent setting powder over the paper this also sets your lipstick.

Finally the key to getting your makeup to last all day is a good setting spray! I suggest Skindavia finishing spray or Gerard Cosmetics slay all day, hold away from your face, close your eyes and spray all over, then get a fan or a bit of card and fan your face until it is dry.

With these simple tips your makeup is guaranteed to last all day!
